1 December 2014 marks the 53rd anniversary of the first raising of the
Morning Star flag as the emblem of the liberated West Papua. The people of West Papua will raise
their Morning Star Independence Flag all over West Papua on this day. They will
risk 15 years imprisonment or worse.
The Morning Star flag was first raised on December 1st 1961 in West Papua after they had gained International legal separation from the Dutch in preparation for full Independence. Unfortunately Indonesia, with the support of USA invaded West Papua in 1962. With betrayal by the USA and by our Australian government who stood by and did not stop this evil act whilst our WW2 West Papuan ‘Fuzzy Wuzzy Angels’ were slaughtered by the cruel Indonesian Military. The Indonesian forces have now murdered over 500,000 West Papuan Men, Women and Children and thousands more arrested, beaten and tortured in their struggle for Independence. The Indonesian forces still do this today.
The Free West Papua Campaign Perth Australia Group gathered at the The UCIC Hall (Uniting Churches in the City) Wesley Church, Perth at noon yesterday to raise the West Papua Flag and scores of people who passed by the corner of Hay & William Streets heard the Alpius message on loud speaker. Some stopped to ask questions and some stopped to join us.
We will continue to bring awareness of the West Papua's cry for self-determination, believing one day it will happen!!!
